ABOUT FARM
KAMAVINDI COFFEE LAB IS ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC FAMILY-RUN COFFEE ESTATES IN THE REGION, FOUNDED IN 1958 BY THE GRANDPARENTS OF THE CURRENT OWNER, PETER. THE ESTATE TAKES ITS NAME FROM THE STREAM RUNNING THROUGH THE PROPERTY: THE PREFIX "KA" IN "KAMAVINDI" MEANS "PLACE," WHILE "MAVINDI" REFERS TO THE INEDIBLE PART OF THE YAM. BEFORE BRITISH COLONIZATION, YAMS WERE A KEY CASH CROP IN EMBU. VILLAGERS WASHED YAMS IN STREAMS, LEAVING THE ROOT CUTTINGS INTENDED FOR REPLANTING TO TAKE ROOT AND GROW. THUS, THE ESTATE'S NAME CARRIES A BEAUTIFUL MEANING OF ABUNDANT LAND AND ENDURING FAMILY LEGACY.
